May 19th, Cbku, Plompetorengracht 4.
For one night SETUP will take over the Utrecht Center for Fine Arts and turn the walls of the space into a hit ‘n run open exhibition
The concept is as simple as it is effective. 1 night, 1 empty space, and a lot of beamers transform the white walls of the art space into a dynamic new kind of exposition. No months of preparations and no static pieces that stay in the same place for three months. Just one night of awesome work, some tunes and drinks.
Participating artists:
Koen van Lier, Cees Oortwijn, A.Bill Miller (US), Oneseconds, Anna van Suchteren, Freya van den Boom, Cis Bakker, Helma van Nuenen, Jolijn de Wolf, Jan Willem Campmans, Vanja von Sek, Nick Liefhebber, Matt Tierney (AU), Max Mana, Frank Wasser (IE), Heinze Havinga & Stefan Siderius, Maarten van der Glas, Lars Berg, Menno Fokma, Emile Zile, Merel Schenk & Wouter de Geringel, Daphe Channa Horn, Marion Red, Lieven van Velthoven, Sophia Anastacia, Jan Coolen, Sandra den Ouden, Viez Juweel, Eveline Braak

Somewhere to Disappear
Mas Films, Aperture, and the New School present a screening of Somewhere to Disappear, a film by Laure Flammarion and Arnaud Uyttenhove with Alec Soth. Somewhere to Disappear is a film about the desire to run away. For his Broken Manual project, the photographer Alec Soth travels across America looking for people who’ve retreated from society. This film is about men, America, Alec Soth, and the dream to disappear.
Alec Soth (b. 1969) is a photographer born and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney and São Paulo Biennials. In 2008, a large survey exhibition of Soth’s work was exhibited at the Jeu de Paume in Paris and Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland. In 2010, the Walker Art Center produced a large survey exhibition of Soth’s work, entitled From Here To There.

False Focus at Nest
Exhibition, April 17 – May 29
”
False Focus is based on the idea that our senses and the way they are translated by the brain into an image of reality does not provide us with a reliable idea of reality.
For the artists of False Focus the senses and its translations are reason to provide us with alternative realities, manifested in videos, photos, paintings and installations.

“Danish–born artist Nina Beier’s interventions result in anything from sculpture to performance. Her works renegotiate general constructions as they appear in the social landscape as well as the conventions surrounding the artwork itself and the underlying awkwardness of these interactions is a recurring feature in Beier’s production.”
