“Initiated as a project at Werkplaats Typographie, Dries Wiewauters. began exploring a stencil based system originally designed by Joseph A. David. In 1876 David acquired the patent for a system that he had invented for sign-writers. With a universal stencil, all UPPERCASE, lowercase, numbers, punctuation, accents etc could be sourced from the grid of the stencil. Dries used this stencil or Plaque Découpée Universelle (PDU) and began an exploration into the liberties and restrictions of a unified grid.”
“In a world increasingly concerned with questions of energy production and raw material shortages, this project explores the potential of desert manufacturing, where energy and material occur in abundance. In this experiment sunlight and sand are used as raw energy and material to produce glass objects using a 3D printing process, that combines natural energy and material with high-tech production technology.”

“The work of Marleen Sleeuwits characterizes itself by schizophrenic scenes that radiate both magical beauty and suffocation. The urban environment, the surroundings and areas that she portraits seem unspoken of, areas that do not attract any attention because of their lack of function and unreachableness through its closed character.
By giving these spaces a function, Sleeuwits confronts her audience with their common beauty but also puts an emphasis on the carefully formulated design concepts that are created for these areas. In doing so with persuasiveness she confronts us with our selectivity and our incapability to open our eyes for the ordinary. Through her aesthetic use of light and color she also points out the oppressive notion that behind everything shelters a thought.”
Created by Batia Suter between 2008 and 2011, Surface Series contains images and fragments from other books. The recurrent use of photographic images is a common denominator in the work of Suter. Since the 1990s she makes use of enlarged photographic images to cover entire walls of exhibition spaces, exploring trompe l’oeil effects and the relationship between the inside and outside of those spaces. In the same way she makes her books, like specific exhibitions on paper.
